A Darmstadt-led team turned the TEM into a live electrical test-bench, building and operating two-terminal devices in situ while an MM3E handled and contacted the specimen.

The authors fabricate and electrically operate two-terminal devices in situ inside the transmission electron microscope, correlating a device’s live electrical response with the structural changes happening in its active material at the atomic scale. An MM3E micromanipulator handles and contacts the in-situ specimen. The approach turns the TEM into an operando electrical-test platform rather than a purely structural one.
