Magnetic energies of single submicron permalloy rectangles determined via magnetotransport
Hamburg pulled the magnetic energies of single 600 × 300 nm permalloy rectangles straight out of anisotropic-magnetoresistance curves, the rectangles fabricated and contacted in UHV with an MM3A-EM.
The authors measure the anisotropic magnetoresistance of single submicron permalloy rectangles (20 nm thick, 2:1 aspect ratio) fabricated and contacted in ultrahigh vacuum with an MM3A-EM micromanipulator. The sensitivity is high enough that single field sweeps resolve structures as small as 600 × 300 nm, letting features of the magnetoresistance be linked to changes in the micromagnetic state and to the rectangles’ magnetic energies.
