The authors show that a T-type calcium channel shapes the sensitivity of a specific mammalian mechanoreceptor. Working in an ex-vivo skin–nerve preparation, they apply standardized displacement stimuli to a receptive field with a probe fixed to a computer-controlled Kleindiek Nanomotor, correlating the channel’s activity with the receptor’s mechanical responses.
