Microinjection System MIS
A micro-valve plug-in for precise microinjection of liquids onto samples in the low-vacuum SEM, down to roughly 100 µm droplets.

Liquid or gas, drop by drop#
The MIS-EM places liquids onto a sample inside a low-vacuum SEM, one controlled drop at a time. A fine pipette — 150 µm outer diameter tapering to a 50 µm bore — puts down droplets as small as 100 µm when tested with water, smaller or larger depending on the fluid’s viscosity. The micro-valve behind it is what makes the volume repeatable: it opens and closes on command, so the manipulator can position the tip over the point of interest and the valve does the rest. Non-condensing gases work through the same valve, not just liquids.
Six fields, one microvalve#
That pairing of controlled microinjection with precision manipulation has carried the MIS-EM into work well outside a typical materials lab — sugar-coating reactions in food science, fibre swelling in textiles, chemical reactions in pharma formulation, cement testing in construction, regenerative-medicine work in biology, corrosion studies in metallurgy. Your existing micromanipulator system can be quickly and easily upgraded for use with the MIS-EM, so the same manipulator that probes and grips can also deliver fluid.

Advantages
Precise microinjection
- Micro-valve places droplets as small as 100 µm (measured with water; varies with viscosity)
- Fine pipette — 150 µm outer diameter, 50 µm inner diameter
- Also handles non-condensing gases, not just liquids
Manipulator-guided, chamber-wide reach
- Manipulator positions the pipette over the exact point of interest, then the valve dispenses
- Runs in low-vacuum SEM, from sugar-coating trials to metal corrosion studies
Plug-in design
- Retrofits to an existing MM3A-EM micromanipulator
- Quick, easy installation
